Ounce Math: Grams, Quarters, Halves and Why 2oz Deals Change Everything

Every conversation about flower pricing eventually reduces to one number: dollars per gram. Master the weight system once and every deal on every menu becomes instantly comparable. Five minutes, no calculator required afterward.

The weight ladder

  • 1 gram โ€” the base unit.
  • Eighth = 3.5g โ€” an eighth of an ounce, the classic small pickup.
  • Quarter = 7g โ€” two eighths.
  • Half = 14g โ€” you can see where this is going.
  • Ounce (oz / zip) = 28g โ€” the standard full unit.
  • 2oz = 56g โ€” the deal tier.

(Pedantry corner: an ounce is technically 28.35g; the market rounds to 28. Every menu, everywhere, means 28.)

Why bigger is always cheaper per gram

Packaging, handling and delivery cost the same whether the jar holds 3.5g or 28g, so sellers price larger weights closer to the flower’s actual cost. The curve is steep: an eighth priced at $35 runs $10/g, while a $125 ounce of comparable flower runs $4.46/g โ€” less than half. Buying small is paying for convenience; that’s fine when it’s deliberate, expensive when it isn’t.

The 2oz deal, done honestly

Take a real example from the shelf: a $125 ounce where the second ounce brings the pair to $165. Ounce one: $4.46/g. The pair: $165 รท 56g = $2.95/g โ€” the second ounce effectively costs $40, or $1.43/g. That’s why the deal board is where regulars live: the marginal price of the second ounce is routinely the cheapest flower in the store.

The honest caveat: a deal is only value if you’ll actually finish it while it’s fresh. 56 grams stored badly is worse value than 28 grams stored well โ€” sealed, cool and dark buys you the months you need.

Reading it on our menu

Every flower card on the shelf shows weight pills with live per-gram math โ€” $160/1oz displays $5.71/g right on the button, and the 2oz pill shows both the savings badge and its own per-gram figure. The division is done before you can reach for your phone.

The free-delivery angle

One more layer of ounce math specific to delivery: in Mississauga and Brampton, orders over $75 ship free while smaller ones carry a $10 fee. A $60 order is really $70 at the door โ€” so stepping up to anything over $75 is often literally free. The cart shows the gap before you pay; the math, as always, favours the zip.
